The Newly Revamped Protea Fire and Ice Social Spaces!
28 November 2014
Protea Fire and Ice recently revamped their social spaces including their reception, bar and restaurant area and 2is1 was lucky enough to get invited to not only see this uber trendy space, but also try the food from the fabulous restaurant!
When I arrived and saw the newly renovated space I absolutely fell in love with it. From the clean lines to the natural light and the fresh, modern and yet comfortable feel - it truely is an amazing transformation.
What I particularly love about the new space is the relaxed feel it offers the guests - from the bar area that is famous not only for cocktails but also for milkshakes in naughty and nice flavours to the herb garden in the middle of the restaurant that allows you to pick your own herbs to use for your breakfast omelette or anything else for that matter! But let me show you rather than tell you all about this sexy space...
After having the chance to chat to the manager, Janneman and having a tour of the space and all the awesome changes, we got to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the talented, Chef Jason. Guests will be happy to know that the menu at the Fire and Ice hotel stayed the same throughout the renovations and they have some amazing signature dishes that come highly recommended!
To start off our evening we enjoyed some cocktails from the bar and who doesn't love a cocktail - you just know it will be a good night when it starts like this:
For starters, the chef prepared a trio with some of their most popular starters and besides being too beautiful to eat, it tasted incredible!
Starters: Crusty Crab (Roasted Sesame seed crab stick salad with a sour pink onion dressing), Crostini with caramalised onions and tzatziki mayo, Mushroom Cloud (A roasted portobello mushroom soaked in hot balsamic rosemary jam, filled with creamy blue cheese and biltong slivers - this was Ritza's favourite!), Duck and Dive (Shangai Mixed-spice duck breast carpaccio with grilled coconut, mango and wasabi oil drops.
For mains, I had one of their absolute favourite signature dishes, "Our Famous Butter Chicken Curry" that comes with all the trimmings and it is definitely a delicious curry that I can suggest when dining in CT.
Ritza had the La La Lamb which are French Cut Lamb Cutlets with a parmesan crust and mint yogurt and Maryka (our photographer) had the "Shankadelic Baby" lamb shank that comes with caramelised baby onions and a rich red wine sauce - this is the perfect dish for a chilly Winter's night!
Dessert was a challenge as we had the option of incredible milkshakes and of course their delicious dessert menu. We decided to try the "Black and White" Oreo Cookies Milkshake and the Organ Failure warm chocolate fondant with organic chocolate that claims to be "just too much to handle" and it definitely it is a delicious overload of chocolate and comes beautifully presented.
The Fire and Ice Hotel has different "themes" every night that will ensure your dining or cocktail experience to be different and unique everytime you visit them. On Thursdays you can pop in for Rockabilly Thursdays when they get some awesome rock bands to create a cool vibe and on Fridays and Saturdays, Fire and Ice Hotel is the perfect place for pre-drinks and cocktails and you will even get Fire and Ice Lollies with a spicy kick all complimentary to make your night out a memorable one!
For more information or specials on Fire and Ice Hotel, engage with them on social media as that is their most popular platform of communication and they love connecting with their guests via or.
A special thanks to Fire and Ice Hotel for having us and you can be sure that we will be back for some naughty milkshakes real soon!
