The Heart of Kloof Street - Kloof Street House Restaurant
19 June 2014
When wining and dining, especially now in winter, I am always looking for a restaurant that is warm, cosy, has a great vibe and of course great food and I found all of this and so much more and the much talked about Kloof Street House in Cape Town.
Kloof Street House is a Victorian styled restaurant and bar that gives you the best of both worlds - a hipster/trendy vibe with an amazing cocktail bar and a beautiful lounge feel restaurant with gourmet cuisine by candle light.
Ritza and I spent a cold and rainy Saturday at this unique restaurant and got to try some of their most popular dishes that is perfect for these chilly weekend days.
Kloof Street House has a fantastic variety of cocktails of which their Porn Star Martini (served with a shot of champagne!) is a firm favourite and definitely a refreshing cocktail for the ladies.
I wanted to show our readers that KSH has something for everyone, thus I ordered one of their share platters to show that you can just pop in, have a glass of wine with a friend and nibble on some delicious treats. It is called the Mediterranean Mezze with garlic and chilli prawns, beef kofte and hummus (incredible!), Moroccan lamb souvlaki, tahini dressing and Spanish smoked paprika chicken wings. This is the perfect variety of snacks on one platter with some of the best chicken I have ever had.
For mains, we tried their absolute must have dishes that comes highly recommended if you pay them a visit. I love burgers and trying them out at different restaurants in Cape Town has become quite a thing of mine and this succulent cheese burger is not only delicious, but also presented in a different way which definitely gives them extra points!
The ultimate winter dish on their menu is definitely the Potato Gnocchi with oxtail ragu , orange and rosemary gremolata. It is hearty, delicious and just makes you love winter even more!
Dessert is the crowning glory of any meal and this dessert menu is no exception. As Chocolate Fondant is a firm favourite of Ritza and I, we just could not resist to have it as it is served with vanillla pod ice cream and a sesame seed wafer ... perfectly "gooey" on the inside and filled with all the chocolate you can handle - pure decadence!
Thank you to Kloof Street House for having us and for our gourmet experience - no doubt that we shall return shortly!
